Carlos has held senior leadership positions at three AmLaw 50 firms: King & Spalding, Morgan Lewis, and Orrick. He established and led the Latin America practices at all three firms, founded and led Morgan Lewis's Corporate and Finance Practice in Houston, and served as a Founding Partner and Houston Office Leader at Orrick, leading its expansion into Texas. A key relationship partner to major multinational clients, he developed longstanding institutional relationships, particularly in energy, while driving business development, partner recruitment, and practice growth..

For more than three decades, Carlos has advised leading U.S. and international companies on significant transactions and investments across nearly every country in Latin America.

His experience includes cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments, privatizations, infrastructure development, and major energy transactions, with particular expertise in oil and gas and power. He has also represented companies in mining, transportation, technology, telecommunications, and real estate.

Fluent in Spanish, Carlos brings a deep understanding of Latin America's legal systems, commercial environments, and cultural dynamics, enabling him to navigate complex international transactions and bridge legal and business practices across jurisdictions.

Carlos has served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, advising senior executives and boards of directors on corporate governance, significant transactions, regulatory compliance, risk management, and strategic business decisions.

His experience includes managing high-stakes, bet-the-company litigation, major commercial disputes, and government investigations, overseeing outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions and advising corporate leadership on matters involving substantial financial exposure and critical business interests.
